Vitamins that Prevent Hair Loss

Hair loss can be caused by a lot of different factors, but two of the most common ones are stress and vitamin deficiency. Stress is a very difficult issue to deal with, and it’s even more difficult if your body is malnourished or your diet is lacking sufficient vitamin content.

Vitamin deficiency can cause a whole array of health problems for you, ranging from minor to very serious, sometimes life-threatening. If you do not take a daily multivitamin, it is quite possible that you are lacking in at least 1 vitamin. If hair loss is the health issue you’re dealing with, there are a number of key vitamins that have been proven to reduce hair loss, while stimulating new hair growth. Read on to learn more.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A is an amazing vitamin, and everyone should take it. It is heavily involved in the maintenance and new growth of your hair and skin. Basically, vitamin A helps regulate the synthesis of retinoic acid in the hair follicle. Vitamin A is unique in that it can be taken internally, in the form of a pill/capsule, or applied topically, in the form of a hair cream or skin cream.

B Vitamins

As stated previously, stress is often one of the main causes of hair loss. B vitamins have been scientifically proven to help reduce stress. There are many types of B vitamins, but the ones that are most beneficial for hair loss are B12 and Inositol. B12 is found in hair itself, so if your body is deficient in it, it’s easy to see why your hair could stop growing or even fall out.

Many people, especially vegetarians, are deficient in vitamin B12, as it is most commonly found in eggs and meat. Since there are so many B vitamins, most of which are very beneficial, it’s recommended that you take a B complex multivitamin.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the many vitamins that the human body does not produce naturally. It can be taken as a supplement, but the best, natural form of vitamin C is found in food sources, such as fruits and vegetables. Vitamin C assists in your body’s overall health, and helps it to absorb iron and other essential nutrients, that are difficult for the body to absorb on its own.

Doctors recommend taking 1000-2000mg of vitamin C each day, although it’s virtually impossible to “overdose” on vitamin C, so taking significantly more than that will not harm your body.

Vitamin D

A daily dose of vitamin D can significantly reduce hair loss. A scientific research report, published in 2009, documents the use of vitamin D for skin and hair conditions for more than 10 years. Basically, this vitamin helps stimulate the hair follicle and the cells in the hair shaft itself, allowing for faster growth and healthier hair.

The recommended daily intake of vitamin D was recently raised from 400 IU to 1000 IU per day.

Vitamin E

Good hair growth requires healthy blood flow, and vitamin E assists in the building of capillaries, which in turn helps with healthy blood flow. Vitamin E can be taken internally (recommended dose is 400 IU per day), or massaged into the scalp directly.
